Synopsis: Two friends are heroically killed while trying to rescue a homeless man who had fallen onto the subway tracks. They awaken to find themselves in a small apartment with other dead people and a black sphere called Gantz who gives them quests to complete.

Do not watch Gantz if you don’t like ultra violence. This is the anime that Japanese TV would not show unedited – even in the middle of the night. This is an anime that makes Berserk seem like Saturday morning cartoons.

Gantz is a harrowing story about two boys and their missions for Gantz. It showcases the worst of human nature through children – which would be very difficult to watch for many people. The story itself is so unique and the characters thoughts so real that it is an incredibly intriguing show to watch. Gantz also will speak to intellectuals who ponder the very core of humanity and the inherent idea of evil.

Crazy gore aside, Gantz is an adrenaline ride. Your heart will be pumping and you’ll be sitting on the edge of your seat. The animation in the fight scenes is as  tortuous as the content. The fights do tend to drag on a bit too long but they are so gruesome it keeps you watching despite the extended time period.

Sadly the worst part of Gantz is that there is no finality. Nothing is wrapped up or finished and we are left with just as many questions as we started out with. Gantz is a crazy and intellectual ride of mindless violence and sexually charged  plots. Not suitable for children or anyone with a weak stomach.
