Full Metal Panic a great blend of action adventure and a dash of sentimental drama. Some scenes are mission driven military campaigns with extraordinary mech fights, while others are carefree droll school scenes. Sousuke must fit in secondary school student, and hilarity ensues when he tries to fit with a group of students that are nothing like him. *Sidenote, Sousuke’s gets smacked by Kaname a lot. I was very impressed by the overall pacing of the series. Most anime slack up at some point, but FMP keeps you on a smooth ride that perfectly blends the life of a military hired solider and a very special school girl.
The animation is vibrant and crisp and blends well with the rest of the anime’s look and feel. The 3d water animation seems a little outdated though.
Yes, they could have dug deeper into large portions of the characters’ back story- case in point we discover that Kaname voyaged abroad. We know Sousuke was part of a guerrilla development in Afghanistan however the anime just skimmed the surface of his bio , and we know next to nothing about Tessa and how she came to be commander of the multi-billion dollar Danaan. Then again, given the amount of characters and the situations in which they connected, Gonzo deserves a bit of credit for attempting to give each character genuine emotional makeups instead of your average caricature/stereotype.
I was surprised by this series’ excellent pacing, awesome music, top notch animation and cool story. I recommend as a much watch.Tags: Action, Mech, SciFi
